Systra India to update mobility plans for two Andhra Pradesh metros

Systra India has been awarded a new contract to update the Comprehensive Mobility Plans (CMPs) for the cities of Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada in the state of Andhra Pradesh, reinforcing its long-standing partnership with the Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (APMRCL).

The CMPs, originally developed in 2019, will be revised to support the next phase of metro planning in these fast-growing cities. The updated plans are a prerequisite for securing central government approval and funding for the projects.

Visakhapatnam’s proposed metro network is set to span 46km across three lines, while Vijayawada’s system will feature two lines covering a total of 38km. Both networks aim to offer a safe, efficient, and sustainable alternative to private transport, contributing to reduced congestion and improved urban mobility.

“I am delighted to be leading the team for the preparation of mobility plans for these two cities in Andhra Pradesh. It is a great honour to work again with the client Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation and foster our relationships with the state in reducing congestion and improving urban mobility,” Ankush Malhotra, Head of Department, Consulting and Advisory Services at Systra India, said.

The metro developments are part of broader efforts to promote public transport across India’s urban centres and shift travel habits toward more sustainable modes.
