Supervision contract for Malaysia’s East Coast Rail Link awarded

China Communications Construction Company appointed AECOM to provide site supervision services for the stations, viaducts, tunnels and depots of the Malaysia’s East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project.
“To deliver this large-scale project, we are tapping into our strong local and international experience in delivering transport infrastructure, particularly in the rail sector. We look forward to leveraging world-class innovative approaches on this complex project that will ultimately benefit all of Malaysia,” AECOM Malaysia Transportation Vice President Ailee Loh said.
The USD 13 billion project will see a 688-km standard-gauge rail network serving all the main hubs of the East Coast Region, traversing Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and parts of Selangor. It will be connected to Malaysia’s main rail network by the time it is completed in 2024. Within the project, 23 stations will be built of which 12 are dedicated to passenger traffic, 2 to freight traffic, while 9 stations will serve mixed traffic. By 2030, ECRL will ensure the transport of 5.4 million passenger and a freight volume of 53 million tonnes.
The ECRL project is part of the Malaysian government’s comprehensive transport plan and will link Kuala Lumpur and Port Klang to the East Coast through a strategic railway network.
