The subway section to Sofia Airport is 99% ready and will be opened in early April, while the stretch reaching Business Park Sofia is 96% ready and will be operational by early May at the latest.
“Statistics on subway transport in Sofia is incontestable and it is one of the most important projects from the point of view of the public interest. Over 350 000 people use the Sofia subway on a daily basis,” Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski noted.
The third stage of the expansion of the Sofia subway is financed under EU operational program Transport 2007-2013.
The third stage of the expansion of the Sofia subway includes 2 sections, Lot 1 – “Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd – Sofia Airport” and Lot 2 “Mladost 1 – Business Park Sofia in Mladost 4.”
The project is worth a total of BGN 407 mln (EUR 208 mln), with BGN 215 (EUR 210 mln) of them provided under EU operational program Transport 2007-2013.
The project envisages the construction of 7.6 kilometers of subway lines and 7 new subway stations.
