Stadler to supply 16 trams to Odense Letbane

Stadler has received from Denmark’s city Odense an order for the manufacture and supply of sixteen Variobahn low-floor trams. The contract was signed with the operator Odense Letbane. The order totals around EUR 45 million. The first vehicle will be delivered to Denmark in autumn 2019. By the end of 2020 the fleet of trams should enter service.
Stadler’s Variobahn light rail vehicles are flexible in length, carriage width, and track gauge due to their modular construction. The bidirectional vehicles have a fully low-floor design, accommodating 193 passengers with step-free access to platforms. Air-conditioned carriages for passengers and driver compartments, double glazed windows, spacious gangways as well as five exterior doors on either sides are all features for Odense. Variobahn trams reach a maximum speed of 70 kilometres per hour.
Odense Lightrail is being constructed from 2015 to 2020. The lightrail project was decided by the Council of Odense in 2011. The municipality of Odense, the Ministry of Transport, Building and Housing, and the Region of Southern Denmark are financing the project.
