Stadler to deliver up to 20 FLIRT trains to Poland

Koleje Wielkopolski, the regional operator in Greater Poland (Wielkopolska) has signed a contract with Stadler for the delivery of up to 20 FLIRT electric trains, intended for regional and commuter rail services.

The contract, worth approximately EUR 263 million, includes the delivery of 10 five-car electric trains, with an option to order an additional 10 units. The first trains are scheduled to enter service in early 2028.

The trains will be built in Poland at the Stadler plant in Siedlce.

Trains designed and developed in Poland

According to the company, Stadler engineers in Poland—including the team in Poznań—will be responsible for designing the trains destined for the Wielkopolska region.

“We will deliver state-of-the-art FLIRT trains for the Wielkopolska region—modern and energy-efficient trains. To date, over 3,000 FLIRT units have been sold in 24 countries,” said Radosław Banach, president of Stadler Polska.

FLIRT trains for regional services

The FLIRT platform is the best-selling train model from Swiss manufacturer Stadler. In Poland, these trains are already in use by operators such as KM, ŁKA, , and PKP Intercity.

The new trains will have five railcars and a capacity of up to 632 passengers, including 266 seated, and will be able to travel at speeds of up to 160 km/h.

The vehicles will be equipped with: Stadler has been present in Poland since 2006 and has over 2,000 employees in the country.

  • the ETCS Level 2 signaling system;
  • air conditioning;
  • a modern passenger information system;
  • wireless internet;
  • surveillance cameras;
  • dedicated spaces for bicycles and strollers.

The company operates three production facilities—in Siedlce, Środa Wielkopolska, and Białystok—as well as engineering offices and maintenance centers.
