Spain: New light rail network opens in Málaga

MalagaThe first two lines of Málaga’s new EUR 795 mln light rail system opened late last month, attracting over 140 000 passengers in its first week of operation. At over 12 km in length and with 17 stations, Line 1 and Line 2 serve the densely populated districts in the south and west of the city. Both lines are still being extended with the construction expected to finish in 2017. The final length of the two lines will be 14.8 kilometres with 23 stations in total. A further four lines are still planned, although construction is yet to begin.
