Southeast LRT extension opened in Denver

Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD) opened the 3.4-km Southeast rail extension into the City of Lone Tree with three new stations – Sky Ridge, Lone Tree City Center and RidgeGate Parkway stations.
The E, F and R extension is an important connector for communities to the north to business centers and future development in the Lone Tree area.
With this extension, residents are able to travel from the RidgeGate station on the new R Line through Aurora to Peoria Station and connect to the commuter train to Denver International Airport. They are able to travel from RidgeGate to Union Station on the E Line and from RidgeGate to 18th and California in downtown Denver on the F Line.
The project is part of RTD’s FastTracks project which includes a 30.7-km Southeast extension on the light rail system. It extends from I-25/Broadway to Lincoln Avenue in Douglas County, with an additional connection along I-225 from I-25 to Parker Road.
Construction on the new extension began in May 2016. The RTD approved a USD 140 million two-phased contract award to Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Inc. to design and build the 3.4 km-long Southeast rail extension from Lincoln to RidgeGate Parkway. Design began during fall 2015 with construction starting in spring 2016.
USD 233.1 million was the Southeast rail extension budget, of which USD 34 million was spent in 2014 on environmental analysis. USD 198.7 million were funded through a combination of federal, private and local funds.
