Softronic receives EUR 14 million financing from Raiffeisen Bank

Raiffeisen Bank will grant a EUR 14 million financing guaranteed by EximBank to Romanian rolling stock manufacturer Softronic Craiova to cover the production and delivery costs of six electric locomotives. These vehicles will join Green Cargo’s rolling stock fleet in Sweden.
Softronic Craiova had previously signed a contract with railway freight operator Green Cargo for the delivery of eight Transmontana locomotives. The first two locomotives have already been manufactured and delivered and are now undergoing tests. The next six locomotives, whose production is financed by Raiffeisen Bank, will be delivered starting with the end of 2019 up to the middle of 2020.
Transmontana Co-Co locomotives are capable to haul trains of up to 3,000 tonnes or three times the traction power of a conventional locomotive. Co-Co axles are equipped with a 25 kV 50 Hz and 15 kV and 16 2/3 Hz by-system transformer which supplies six asynchronous traction engines, developing a total power of 6600 kW capable to reach speeds of 200 km/h.
Softronic is a Romanian manufacturer of rolling stock and electric units.
“Currently, Softronic has the capacity to manufacture around 9-10 locomotives annually. LEMA locomotive is an original Softronic project, the first such locomotive being manufactured in 2010. So far, we have built 36 locomotives mostly dedicated to railway freight transport operators. Our locomotives run on the railway network of Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and now Sweden”, declared Radu Zlatian, Research & Development Director Softronic.
The company was established in 1999 with 100% Romanian capital. Its most popular products are the electric locomotive with asynchronous motor traction (LEMA – Transmontana) and the multi-unit passenger electric trains Hyperion. Both the locomotives and the trains are designed for maximum energy efficiency recovering energy during braking. To manufacture these two products, Softronic designs and manufactures all necessary mechanic elements, electric traction engines, static converters for traction or auxiliary services, as well as the control, command and safety equipment.
Transmontana is the most performing electric locomotive manufactured in Europe, certified by the Romanian Railway Authority (AFER) and is authorised to operate on the railways of Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Sweden. The locomotive has a modern design, asynchronous traction engines, dynamic braking (rheostatic and regenerative), electronic traction converters, electronic control and command equipment based on microcontrollers and microprocessors, LED lights and other equipment.
