Vossloh has won a major contract from France’s rail infrastructure manager, SNCF Réseau, to carry out rail milling work for a fixed period of two years, starting in 2026, with an option to extend for a further three years. On average, approximately 200 km of track will be treated annually, making this one of the largest rail and track maintenance projects the company has undertaken in France to date.
Work carried out nationwide
The work will be carried out throughout the country, with the exception of the island of Corsica. In 2026 alone, work is planned for 11 Infrapôles – regional structures of SNCF Réseau that manage the railway infrastructure locally. Vossloh has presented an optimized program so that the milling train can operate with minimal transfer times between construction sites.
Collaboration focused on innovation and new technologies
Discussions began during the tendering phase on the introduction of new equipment, digital monitoring systems, and innovative technologies designed to meet the increased demands on French rail infrastructure, a key hub in European rail traffic.
“We are delighted that SNCF Réseau has reaffirmed its confidence in us. This contract strengthens our role as a long-term partner for sustainable infrastructure services in France,” said Marcel Taubert, Managing Director of Vossloh Rail Services.
He added: “Efficient maintenance, high availability, and technological developments are key elements in meeting the needs of an expanding European rail market.”
Integrated milling and grinding to extend rail life
The milling method used by Vossloh allows complete processing of the rail profile in a single pass, depending on the depth of the defect and the condition of the material.
By combining milling with integrated grinding, the transverse and longitudinal profile of the rail is precisely corrected, which improves ride comfort, reduces wear and extends the service life of the railway infrastructure.
