SNCF and Transdev set to run Paris suburban and airport lines

SNCF Voyageurs and Transdev have been named as the preferred candidates to operate key suburban transport services in the Île-de-France region, including Line L of the Transilien rail network and several express bus lines serving Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Île-de-France Mobilités, the regional transport authority, is expected to formalise these proposed contract awards during its Board of Directors meeting on 20 May. The selections form part of the region’s phased opening of public transport services to competition, in accordance with EU and French regulations.

SNCF Voyageurs to run Line L under new public service contract

SNCF Voyageurs is the preferred bidder for the public service contract to operate Line L, which links Paris-Saint-Lazare with Versailles-Rive-Droite, Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche, and Cergy-le-Haut. This will be the first time a rail line in the region is operated under a delegated public service contract.

The Line L service, projected for 2025, includes:

  • Around 4.2 million commercial train-kilometres per year, representing 6.5% of the Transilien SNCF Voyageurs-operated network;
  • An estimated 297,000 daily journeys, or 8.7% of the network’s total ridership;
  • Roughly 560 train movements per weekday;
  • Service across 36 stations.

Transdev Selected to operate express bus services to Charles De Gaulle Airport

Transdev is the preferred operator for the express coach services connecting Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport to key locations across Paris, Seine-Saint-Denis, and Val-d’Oise. The routes serve major employment hubs and communities including Argenteuil, Aulnay-sous-Bois, Bagnolet, Le Bourget, Les Pavillons-sous-Bois, Montmorency, Paris, Saint-Denis, Sarcelles and Soisy-sous-Montmorency.

The contract will cover four express lines—two newly created and two existing services (Lines 350 and 351). Operations will be based out of the Mesnil-Amelot bus depot.
