Slovak Railways to offer free travel for special categories

Hlavná stanica, ľudia, vlaky, odchody vlakov, dopravaStarting from 17 November, the Slovak Railways offer free travel on most domestic trains, as part of a €250 million social-economic package designed to compensate for recent years of austerity.
Based on the proposal approved by the cabinet on October 22, children under the age of 15, full-time students under the age of 26, people over 62 and all recipients of pensions under the Act on Social Insurance in Slovakia are eligible for free travel using the national railways. The measure does not apply to inter-city and other trains which carriers operate at their own expense without state support.
About 2.5 million people will be thus able to travel for free in second class carriages. At present, children under 6 and seniors older than 70 years can travel for free on trains.
