Hitachi Rail has been awarded the contract for the signalling works associated with the construction of two MRT stations on Singapore’s North-South Line (NSL).
The project contributes to the expansion of one of the world’s most advanced urban rail networks and strengthens the long-standing partnership between the company and the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
The contract covers the signalling works required to integrate the two new stations into the existing rail infrastructure. The project will be carried out by the Hitachi Rail team in Singapore, which will draw on its expertise in systems integration, testing and commissioning to introduce the new infrastructure without significantly disrupting existing operations.
The works will utilise SELTRAC CBTC technology developed by Hitachi Rail, a signalling solution used on major metro networks in cities such as New York, London, Hong Kong and Singapore.
“By utilising SELTRAC CBTC technology, which has been tried and tested in numerous projects, alongside our local expertise, we will integrate these new stations into the network whilst maintaining the high levels of reliability that passengers expect every day,” said Alfredo Drago, Director of Hitachi Rail’s Signalling Division for the APAC (Asia-Pacific) region.
Two stations integrated into the existing network
The signalling solutions for the two stations will be integrated into the current system, whilst maintaining the safety and reliability of passenger services.
One of the stations (NS3A) is an intermediate station, built on the existing North-South Line route, whilst NS6 will be a transfer station that will also serve the Downtown Line 2 extension. Upon completion, NS6 will contribute to the future development of the transport network and enhance the operational flexibility of Singapore’s metro system.
The award of the contract marks another significant milestone in the collaboration between Hitachi Rail and LTA and reaffirms the company’s commitment to supporting the development of Singapore’s rail infrastructure.
