Siemens opens Rail Components Distribution Centre in Goole

Siemens Mobility has officially opened its new Rail Components Distribution Centre at the Goole Rail Village in East Yorkshire. This facility will play a key role in enhancing the delivery of materials to fleets and supporting the company’s goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050. The new centre will provide distribution services for Siemens Mobility’s fourteen rolling stock maintenance depots and servicing locations across the UK.

The opening ceremony was attended by Rt Hon Sir David Davis MP, Member of Parliament for Goole and Pocklington, and Cllr Anne Handley, Leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, alongside Siemens Mobility’s Joint CEO Sambit Banerjee.

Located in Goole, the new distribution centre will work alongside the company’s existing logistics centre in Kettering, serving as a storage and distribution hub for rail components. It will also facilitate the integration of the Goole Rail Village within the wider supply chain, supporting UK rolling stock operations. Together, the Kettering and Goole facilities will create apprenticeship and internship opportunities, with significant potential for workforce expansion in the future.

This development is part of Siemens Mobility’s efforts to reduce its logistics carbon footprint by localising its distribution centres. With locations in both the north and south of England, the company aims to reduce the road miles required to deliver materials to fleets.

“I am so proud that our Goole Rail Village is continuing to expand, with a new Rail Components Distribution Centre that will play an important part in Siemens Mobility’s mission to transform rail travel and transport in the UK. This new centre, alongside its sister facility in Kettering, is the latest example of our commitment to the UK and will enable us to further enhance the delivery of materials to our fleets,” Sambit Banerjee, Joint CEO at Siemens Mobility, said.

“It was a pleasure to open Siemens Mobility’s new Rail Components Distribution Centre in Goole, alongside Councillor Anne Handley. This state-of-the-art facility located within my constituency represents yet another investment by Siemens Mobility in Goole and I look forward to more milestones to come as the Rail Village continues to grow,” Rt Hon Sir David Davis MP, Member of Parliament for Goole and Pocklington, said.

Cllr Anne Handley, Leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Councillor for Goole North, commented: “This new facility is the latest in a long line of investment by Siemens Mobility into Goole and the East Riding of Yorkshire more widely, supporting local talent and investing in the communities where they operate. It makes me incredibly proud to be part of this journey and I look forward to working with Siemens Mobility as they continue to boost our local area.”

Siemens Mobility currently employs approximately 5,500 people in the UK. The opening of the Rail Components Distribution Centre forms part of the company’s broader investment of up to GBP 240 million in the Goole Rail Village.
