Siemens Mobility, in a consortium with Sonda México SA de CV, has secured a signaling contract in Mexico to install ETCS Level 1 on the City–Querétaro–Irapuato rail corridor.
The project covers a distance of over 300 km and includes 11 passenger stations, forming part of Mexico’s federal initiative to modernize passenger rail infrastructure.
Under the contract, Siemens Mobility will also supply the TPS.plan software, a high-performance train scheduling system that optimizes timetables and rail operations. The company will also deliver signaling equipment for the installation of ETCS Level 1 at the track level, an operational control center with a backup system, as well as SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.
The consortium partner, Sonda, will provide the telecommunications components, CCTV systems, and civil works.
The signaling contract in Mexico, a benchmark for Siemens
“This contract is our first ETCS project in Mexico and marks the debut of the TPS.plan software for train scheduling in Latin America. The project reflects our commitment to improving mobility and connectivity nationwide,” said Marc Ludwig, CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility.
In addition, Siemens Mobility will implement, for the first time in Latin America, the TPS.plan software solution, developed by its subsidiary HaCon. This application enables the precise optimization of schedules and routes, using detailed infrastructure models to create conflict-free schedules. At the same time, TPS.plan facilitates coordination among all stakeholders, providing constant access to the most up-to-date planning data and thus contributing to the efficient and smooth operation of the rail network.
The signaling contract in Mexico marks another success for Siemens Mobility in Latin America and represents the company’s first ETCS contract in Mexico.
The project represents a key step in the modernization of rail transport in Mexico, bringing significant benefits for the mobility of employees, students, and commuters in the Bajío region. By connecting the capital with the states of Hidalgo, Querétaro, and Guanajuato, the new line strengthens regional ties with Mexico City, supports economic competitiveness, and aligns with federal goals for the development of sustainable passenger rail transport. By leveraging innovative technologies and engaging early in large-scale projects, Siemens Mobility strengthens its position as a trusted partner, helping to set industry standards, increase efficiency, and support long-term development.
