Siemens Mobility wins 22-year service contract in Singapore

Siemens Mobility and SBS Transit, Singapore’s public transport operator, have announced the extension of the Long-Term Service Support (LTSS) contract for the signaling system of Downtown Line (DTL) in Singapore – one of the most reliable metro systems in the world and an essential part of the city-state’s high-capacity public transport network.

The performance-based agreement spans 22 years, from January 2026 to December 2047, and includes equipment obsolescence management, technology upgrades and modernizations, including security-related measures. The fully automated metro line is approximately 44 kilometers long and has 37 stations.

The new contract complements the LTSS agreement awarded in May 2024, which includes spare parts support, technical support, and obsolescence monitoring. Together, these agreements create a long-term framework through which Siemens Mobility, as the original manufacturer of the DTL signaling system, provides lifecycle management services that contribute to safer and more reliable operation through 2047.

The Downtown Line signaling system was originally installed and developed by Siemens Mobility.

A central element of the contract is the transition from a reactive to a proactive model of aging management. All current and potential cases of aging that may affect signaling subsystems and components will be identified early and addressed through structured measures.

This includes evaluating and defining the development work required for appropriate redesigns, implementing changes at the subsystem or component level, and introducing approved replacement parts into the signaling equipment. Siemens Mobility will continuously monitor component lifecycles and adjust parts stocks accordingly.

Subsequently, a proactive monitoring system will be applied to ensure long-term operational support and prevent potential disruptions. Maintaining the consistency of the DTL signaling system provides passengers with a reliable and efficient public transport network.

The contract also includes systematic updates to meet evolving security requirements. Siemens Mobility will continuously analyze system performance and configuration to ensure that new hardware and software components are compatible with the local operating environment and can be integrated without affecting existing functions.
