Siemens Mobility and Newag, a Polish rolling stock manufacturer, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their strategic collaboration in the development of modern railway technologies in Poland. The document underscores the two companies’ shared commitment to promoting innovation, safety, and quality in railway technologies in the Polish sector.
The agreement provides for the exchange of knowledge, technical assessments, and the combination of both partners’ engineering and manufacturing expertise, with a particular focus on the production of high-speed rolling stock and advanced maintenance concepts to increase long-term availability and efficiency.
“We are expanding our partnership with Newag to create a solid foundation for future collaboration in the Polish railway market. Building on our long-standing cooperation, we want to stimulate innovation, strengthen local value creation, and contribute to the next stage of development of the Polish railway,” said Michael Peter, CEO of Siemens Mobility.
The agreement also establishes a framework for ongoing dialogue and joint technical assessments, including potential collaboration on high-speed rolling stock, in the context of PKP Intercity’s initiatives to purchase 320 km/h high-speed trains.
It should be noted that on December 30, 2025, PKP Intercity launched a tender to purchase 20 high-speed trains, a contract that will include an option for an additional 35 trains capable of traveling at speeds of 320 km/h.
“The signing of this agreement is an important step in expanding our collaboration with Siemens Mobility on the Polish market in the high-speed rolling stock segment. In the field of high-speed train projects, Siemens is the natural strategic leader for us,” said Zbigniew Konieczek, president of Newag.
Siemens Mobility and Newag have collaborated on the construction of metro trains for Warsaw and Sofia, and on the development of traction systems, gearboxes, and on-board ETCS equipment for locomotives and electric trains. The signed memorandum opens a new chapter in the Siemens Mobility–Newag partnership, deepening cooperation and paving the way for new joint initiatives.
The two companies have been working together for almost 15 years.
