Shiraz opens metro extension

The Iranian city of Shiraz extended its first metro line, with the inauguration of the 3 kilometers southern section of Line 1, between Namazi and Zandiyeh. This will become an interchange with the initial 11 kilometers phase of Line 2 from Shokufe to Azadi, which will be inaugurated in 2019.

Shiraz inaugurated the first phase of the metro network in 2014. The initial section of Line 1 links Ehsan Square with Namazi in the city centre and has eight stations. The total length of both phases is 22.5 kilometers. The train fleet for Line 1 has been supplied by CNR, China. Construction is also underway on the initial 11 kilometers phase of Line 2 from Shokufe to Azadi, which will include an interchange with Line 1 at Emam Hossein Square. A second phase is planned, which will extend the line 4 kilometers east to Saadi.
