Serbia and Russia negotiate a new rail contract

The Chairman of Russian Railways, Oleg Belozerov, and Serbian Minisert of Transport, Zorana Mihajlovic, discussed the prospects of signing a new contract for reconstruction of the 210 km long Valjevo – Vrbnica – frontier with Montenegro railway section, and construction of the Integrated Railway Traffic Control Center in Serbia.
Both sides have also discussed the possibility on joint maintenance service of the Serbian railway infrastructure.
The parties confirmed mutual interest in extension of Russian involvement in construction and modernization of Serbia’s railway infrastructure. “Russian and Serbian railway specialists demonstrate the coherent teamwork. We are ready to work even faster. I’m sure that if we join our efforts we will be able to pull off the projects of any difficulty level,” Oleg Belozerov said.
To date the RZD International completed the first 10 km of railway track on the Stara Pazova – Indjia section of the Belgrade – Budapest railway line for the speed of 200 km/h. The construction of the double-track Chortanovci tunnel and the 3-km viaduct in the floodplain of the Danube river on the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad section is also conducted in accordance with the schedule.
Since 2014 RZD International, a part of the Russian Railways holding, has been carrying out extensive works on constructing and upgrading Serbian railway infrastructure. To date, the company has already completed the reconstruction of the Belgrade-Pancevo section, railway facilities within the Trans-European Transport Corridor X development project and Resnik – Valjevo section on the Belgrade – Bar railway line. Also, Russian-made Diesel Multiple Unit trains were delivered to Serbia.
In March 2018, Russian Railways and the Government of Serbia signed the Memorandum of strategic partnership development and joined implementation of the railway infrastructure projects in the Republic of Serbia.
