Sener signs Porto’s Pink Line design contract

Metro do Porto awarded Sener the contract for the extension of Porto metro network by 2.8 km. Sener will perform the detailed design of the new line (Line G) in the section between Boavista/Casa da Música and Praça da Liberdade.
The line will have 4 stations, of which the station located at Praça da Liberdade will be a significant challenge as it is located very close to the UNESCO heritage site being the historical city center.
Currently, the city of Porto, is carrying out two projects on metro extensions, envisaging Pink Line (Line G) and the Yellow Line (D). It is expecting that the construction of the new lines will start in 2019. The consortium for the Pink Line comprises Sener, CJC and NSE and the consortium for the Yellow Line is formed by LCW, Amberg Engineering and GRID. The total value of the contracts is EUR 3.3 million, of which EUR 1.82 million for the Pink Line and EUR 1.47 million, for the Yellow Line. The tender had its reference value fixed in EUR 4.7 million.
The Consortium Sener/CJC/NSE, responsible for Pink Line’s design shall draw up the preliminary studies, evaluate the environmental impact and execute the project within the next 330 days.
After the contracts will be completed, Metro do Porto will launch the public tender for the construction contracts. The works must start in the first months of 2019 to be completed in 2022. Together, the two lines will serve more than 33 000 people per day, covering important zones of Porto city. The overall investment involved in the expansion of the Metro’s network is around EUR 290 million.
