RZD orders 42 electric trains

EP2D and EP3D trains Transmashholding and Russian Railways signed a contract for the supply of 42 EP2D and EP3D trains manufactured by the Demikhov Machine-Building Plant (DMZ, part of TMH). This is the first contract DMZ has signed this year to build rolling stock for Russian Railways.

By the end of this year, TMH will deliver Russian Railways a fleet of 220 coaches comprising 90 EP2D typpe and 130 EP3D model railcars.

The 16 EP2D train fleet will consist of several versions including one 10-car train, two 8-car, six 6-car and seven 4-car versions. The ordered 26 EP3D electric trains will be also delivered in different lengths including 15 4-car, two 8-car, and nine 6-car versions.

The new electric trains are Russian-made vehicles and are designed with comfortable two- and six-seater sofas, made of wear-resistant materials equipped with USB sockets for charging mobile devices.

The new EMUs will be adapted to access high and low station platforms. Additional retractable steps make it easier to enter the car from low platforms. The barrier-free electric trains will be adapted to passengers with mobility disabilities, providing folding ramps and special lifts, as well as mounts for wheelchairs which are installed in the head cars. In addition, the passenger information system is duplicated in Braille.

The new EP2D and EP3D trains will be put into operation on the rail networks in Far East, Kuibyshev, West Siberian, East Siberian, Northern, North Caucasian, South Eastern, Sverdlovsk and Gorky railways.

Russian Railways has been purchasing EP3D-model trains since 2018 and EP2D type since 2019, TMH delivering 186 DC electric train cars and 338 AC cars.

The EP2D train has been unveiled by TMH in 2016. Since 2021, the trains are also running on the Yerevan – Gyumri railway line operated by South Caucasus Railway.

EP2D and EP3D trains are TMH’s most modern EMU platform capable of supporting comfortable passenger service on DC (EP2D) and AC (EP3D) lines. These trains providing a high level of comfort, safety, efficiency and operational flexibility.
