RZD aims to localise rail production in Russia

RZD lastochkaDuring a round table discussion on cooperation between Russian and German companies, RZD Presidend, Vladimir Yakunin underlined that cooperation between Russian and German companies was not limited to the purchase of rolling stock and other products for the rail industry, but aims to localise production in Russia, introduce new technologies, exchange best practices and train personnel, including the creation of new jobs for highly qualified personnel.
As an example, Vladimir Yakunin cited a contract to produce the Lastochka trains in Russia, where the level of localisation is expected to reach 80 percent. Another example cited by Yakunin was the successful cooperation between Russian Railways and German companies such as Siemens, Deutsche Bahn, Knorr-Bremse and Vossloh. Yakunin said in particular that “today, due to the interaction with Siemens and our Russian partners, we have large-scale locomotive production in the Urals.”
The roundtable was organised by the Russian-German International Chamber of Commerce and attended by Vladimir Yakunin, President of RZD, and German business leaders such as the heads and senior managers of companies, including those which are already cooperating with the RZD Holding and Russian companies, as well as those interested in entering the Russian market.
