Romanian Government proposes Bucharest-Cluj high-speed railway

The Romanian Government has also turned their attention on the development of Metro Line 7 once more. On 23 August, the Government introduced new strategic projects on the list of the projects to be prepared and assigned in public-private partnership (PPP) by the National Strategy and Prognosis Commission, Mediafax informs quoting sources from the government.
Currently, the National Prognosis Commission elaborates the substantiation notes for each of these projects and, once completed, they will be presented to the Government to be adopted through Governmental Decision and the attribution tenders will be launched.
The most important proposed projects include the development of a high-speed railway on Bucharest – Craiova – Timișoara – Cluj route, of around 1,275 km.
We recall that at the beginning of 2018, in February, Romania and Hungary agreed to develop a high-speed railway between Cluj and Budapest.
“The Hungarian Government approved a financing of HUF 1 billion (EUR 3.3 million) for the feasibility study of this project. The Hungarian Government has no objection regarding Romania’s plan of extending the high-speed railway to Bucharest”, declared back then Peter Szijjarto, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Moreover, the Government also included on the list the extension of the metro network by developing Metro Line 7 on Bragadiru – Alexandriei – Colentina – Voluntari route, with 25 km and 30 stations. Another significant project includes the extension of Constanta Port by creating additional operation berths/terminals in basins 3 and 4, an objective included in the General Transport Master Plan.
