Romanian Government approves the technical-economic indicators for Metro Line 6

harta-metrouOn 8 December 2016, based on a Government Decision, the Romanian Government approved the technical-economic indicators for Metro Line 6 – Gara de Nord – Otopeni Airport. Line 6 project includes the construction of a 14.2 km line served by 12 stations starting with 1 Mai Station to Henri Coanda (Otopeni) Airport. The line will be able to carry 50,000 passengers an hour. The new line will provide direct connection between Gara de Nord and Romania’s largest Airport.
Works will be initiated in the second half of 2017 and the execution period is 48 months.
The total cost of investments is RON 5.9 billion (EUR 1.3 billion). The financing will come from the loan agreement signed between the Romanian Government and the Japanese Agency for International Cooperation (JICA), from non-reimbursable foreign funds through the Operational Programme Large Infrastructure (POIM) 2014-2020 and from the state budget.
Also, the direct access of passengers could be ensured across the entire metro network through Basarab 1-2 existing station. Metro stations will be in points of maximum interest for passengers (Romexpo Exhibition Centre, Baneasa Shopping Centre, Baneasa Rail Station, Henri Coandă – Otopeni Airport etc.), enabling the economic development of the areas. The project is included in Bucharest – Ilfov Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan.
