Romania: Iasi city rehabilitates rail lines and buys new trams

Iasi authorities have completed the 2018 draft budget following five public debates organised in the past weeks. The general budget will have a total cost of around RON 848 million with a deficit of almost EUR 12 million after some of the revenues reduced and authorities focused on the city’s urgent needs.

“A budget guideline is the accession of European funds. In the next three years, we are hoping to get EUR 58 million to continue infrastructure works and the modernisation of electric transport, including the procurement of electric buses and new trams”, declared mayor Mihai Chirica. The Municipality’s list of urban mobility projects includes five main projects, three of them for the rehabilitation of the tram infrastructure. Among them, the reorganisation of traffic on Tudor Vladimirescu Boulevard, the rehabilitation of the tram infrastructure on Iasi-Dancu route and the e-ticketing system for improvement of mobility in Iasi Metropolitan Area. Infrastructure rehabilitation works also include the procurement of 12 new trams.

The reserve list includes the modernisation of public transport stations as intermodal points (Tehnopolis, Agronomie and Canta rounds), the extension and modernisation of Gara and Dacia depots, and the procurement of 15 trams.
