Romania finalised the list of transport infrastructure projects

Infrastructura RomaniaRomania’s Ministry of Transport announced having completed the list of projects for all transport sectors: road, air, railway, naval and multimodal hubs, based on the economic, social and environmental criteria imposed by the European Commission.

“The Government approved the maximum additional contribution from the state budget, EUR 7 Billion, to be able to generate as many projects as possible this year, based on a financial structure of 25% European money, 15% state budget co-financing, with the rest of the financing up to 100% ensured from EIC and EBRD loans. We have discussed with EIB and EBRD from phase zero of project development to use their expertise so that there would be no problems related to the criteria imposed by the European Commission. I am positive that we would manage to meet the schedule and the logbook of MPGT. Its structure is reasonable and this would make Romania one big site as of this year for all transport types”, declared Minister Ioan Rus, after a meeting with the European Commissioner for Regional Policies, Corina Crețu, when the pair discussed about the General Transport Master Plan (MPGT).

In turn, the European Commissioner for Regional Policies, Corina Crețu, said that “the General Transport Master Plan is a prerequisite for accessing the funds of the European Union for the large transport projects in 2014-2020. A normal condition before starting a journey is to have a map with the routes. This map, this Master Plan, refers not only to the current financing period, to the next 7 years, but also to Romania’s economic development for the next 15-20 years”. Romanian Minister of Transport Ioan Rus met the European Commissioner for Regional Policies, Corina Crețu, on 10 March and the pair made declarations about the General Transport Master Plan.
