Romania: Botosani to access European funds for the procurement of trams

In 2018, Botosani Municipality plans to sign the financing contracts for several projects financed with European funds. Among them, Botosani public transport project which amounts to EUR 32 million, accessed through Axis 4 of the Regional Operational Programme.

“The tram network will be fully refurbished. The railways will remain on the same routes” but will be more silent. “Trams will meet all current standards. Moreover, the track will also be refurbished, as well as the depot, while trams will be equipped with modern fittings”. Tram stations will be upgraded with passenger information panels that will display the number of trams in operation and “the time interval until the arrival of the next tram”, declared Mayor Catalin Flutur.

Around six new electric silent trams will be purchased as part of the project. Different financing axes will be used for the rest of the rolling stock, to complete the Eltrans fleet with brand new trams.

Necessary amounts for the co-financing of projects have been included in this year’s draft budget. “We have definitely allocated money in the budget to continue these development projects, because those money will definitely come. It now depends when the governors will sign the financing, but we are on schedule, we are way ahead of the other cities in our region”, declared the mayor. The project documents, as well as all permits necessary for the initiation of the project have already been submitted to the Management Authority.
