The Riga municipal public transport company Rigas satiksme has announced a tender for the acquisition of twenty new low-floor trams. The company wants to buy fifteen three-section and five four-section articulated low-floor trams in total. The new trams will have access facilities for people with disabilities.
Bids will be accepted until 15 October. The estimated value of the contract is EUR 70 million. The new trams could be put into service in the second half of 2016.
At present, Rigas satiksme has 189 trams, of which 26 are low-floor trams that the company bought from Skoda Transportation in 2008.
