Renfe includes incident data in monthly punctuality reports

Renfe has released its punctuality results for October, continuing its commitment to transparency and good governance by publishing monthly performance data for all services, including AVE and Long Distance, Avant, Media Distancia, Cercanías and Rodalies. The reports are available for consultation and download in the ‘Gobierno corporativo y transparencia’ section of its website.

A new indicator has been added to the monthly data to show the number of minutes of delay generated by incidents, distinguishing between delays attributable to Renfe and those caused by external factors such as infrastructure faults, traffic management issues, disruption from other operators or adverse weather conditions. Renfe notes that no other transport operator in Spain publishes performance information with this level of accessibility and detail.

High-speed and Long Distance services

In October, Renfe operated 8,958 AVE and Long Distance services.

  • 70.3% arrived on time, defined as less than five minutes of delay.
  • 87% arrived with less than 15 minutes of delay.
Of all incident-related delays recorded, 73.2% were due to external factors including infrastructure, traffic management and weather-related events, indicating that most disruptions were not directly linked to Renfe’s own operations.

Avant (medium-distance high-speed)

Avant services recorded strong performance across 4,320 circulations:

  • 95% of trains arrived with less than 15 minutes of delay.
  • 85% met the stricter five-minute threshold.
  • In total, 72% of delay minutes were caused by reasons outside Renfe’s control.

Medium distance

Media Distancia trains operated 10,296 services in October.

  • 87% arrived with less than 15 minutes of delay.
  • Of all recorded delay minutes, 84.5% were attributable to external causes.
