RegioJet EMU from Pesa reached 200 km/h

Polish manufacturer PESA Bydgoszcz has successfully completed speed tests on the new EMU intended for the Czech private operator RegioJet. During tests conducted on the rail circuit at the Velim Test Center in the Czech Republic, the vehicle reached a speed of 200 km/h for the first time, marking an important milestone in the development and certification process of the new train platform.

According to PESA representatives, the traction tests confirmed excellent performance in terms of acceleration, stability, and the train’s dynamic behavior at high speeds. The specialists involved in the testing program—mechanics, engineers, and technical experts—gave a positive assessment of the new EMU’s characteristics.

The company emphasizes that the project also serves as an example of cooperation between engineering teams in Poland and the Czech Republic, a partnership that contributes to strengthening PESA’s position in the Central European rail market.

Tests confirm readiness for operation

After reaching the 200 km/h threshold, the testing program continues with further technical and operational checks. These stages are intended to demonstrate the vehicle’s readiness for operation in interregional rail services.

The first commercial passenger services are scheduled for December 2026.

The new platform developed by PESA is designed for maximum speeds of 200 km/h and can be adapted to the various requirements of the European passenger rail transport market.

The PESA EMU 666 and EMU 667 models intended for RegioJet are multi-system trains, capable of running on both 3 kV DC and 25 kV AC systems. This feature allows them to operate on international and cross-border routes as well.

The vehicles comply with European interoperability standards (TSI) and are equipped with the ETCS Level 2 signaling and control system. For passengers, the new trains will offer first- and second-class seating, dedicated spaces for families with children, as well as catering facilities, including a kitchen area and a bar.
