RegioJet buys new Pesa Elf trains and intends to acquire more Astra Vagoane Calatori coaches

RegioJet and PESA Bydgoszcz signed a contract for the supply of seven low-floor electric units PESA Elf for operations on subsidized regional trains in the Ústí nad Labem region in the North of the Czech Republic.
The total value of the order is more than EUR 20 million. PESA Bydgoszcz will start delivery of the EMUs in the second half of 2021so that the full start of their operations could take place in accordance with the contract between RegioJet and the Ústí nad Labem Region during the timetable change in December 2021.
Signing of the contract follows the RegioJet’s victory in the Usti Region’s market selection for the operations of regional train services on the U5, U7 and U13 regional train lines and additional regional train services within the Usti nad Labem agglomeration. According to the contract between the Ústí nad Labem region and RegioJet, the operator will start its operations on these regional lines in December 2019 – starting with ex DB Regio 628 DMUs, being fully replaced by December 2021 by the fleet of 7 new PESA Elf EMUs.
RegioJet, the largest private passenger trains operator in Central Europe – headquartered in the Czech Republic, reports the record traffic and economic results for the last year. In 2018, RegioJet trains carried 9.7 million passengers on all its routes. Compared to 2017, it is a massive year-on-year increase of 29 %.

At the same time, RegioJet reports successful economic results for 2018. According to preliminary non-audited results, in 2018 profit before tax should reach more than EUR 4 million (CZK 100 million). This is also a record result showing the high profitability of investments in the railway sector.
In 2018, RegioJet also launched new vehicles representing the investment value of hundreds of millions of CZK. These are in particular four multi-system locomotives Bombardier TRAXX and new passenger cars with individual screens in passenger seats, produced by the Romanian rolling stock manufacturer Astra Vagoane Calatori.
The acquisition and deployment of new vehicles will continue this year – RegioJet plans to deploy more new multi-system locomotives – and also more new Astra Vagoane Calatori coaches.
RegioJet has prepared more purchases and refurbishments in the investment value of more than EUR 40 million (CZK 1 billion) in the next 2-3 years, so that it continues to increase the number of seats offered and will provide enough space reflecting highly increasing number of passengers.
