RCG invests in digital carrier system, RailCube

Since the beginning of 2018, the RCG-wide program, “Cargo Connect International” is working on defining a standard IT solution which should be used to process rail freight traffic, in particular planning, ordering and dispatching resources. The aim is standardisation across country borders in order to speak a common language internationally and in terms of the system technology used. As part of the program, a contract was concluded in July 2018 with CRX Software concerning the RailCube software solution. A pilot project was carried out beforehand with Rail Cargo Carrier in Germany.
RailCube is an ERP solution (enterprise resource planning) which is used at present in more than twelve European countries by rail undertakings and supports the planning and dispatching of international trains. This makes it a proven IT system in which functions can be easily and intuitively accessed. RailCube is available in multiple languages and compatible with interoperability standards. A decisive advantage is provided by the possibility of linking RailCube to existing operative and external systems through interfaces. International transaction processes in freight traffic are therefore improved and automated internationally by one continuous system. The implementation of RailCube is supported by the Bechtle Group, Germany’s largest independent IT system house and Europe’s leading IT E-commerce provider.
RailCube represents an important requirement for the further growth and the expansion of its own international production network. With the successive implementation of the software solution in all Rail Cargo Carrier companies and Rail Cargo Hungaria already beginning in July 2018, RCG is taking a big step to becoming a digital carrier by the middle of 2020. For RCG’s customers this means an improvement to the international information service and high-quality transports coupled with increased flexibility through a more efficient use of resources.
Rail Cargo Group’s in-house traction activities, ÖBB’s freight division, are continuously being developed. RCG is already operating in eleven European countries with its own locomotives. With the implementation of a new IT system, the next step to standardise the international production systems into one integrated platform for dispatchers and customers is now taking place.
With 8,700 employees, branches throughout Europe and an annual turnover of EUR 2.2 billion, Rail Cargo Group is among the leading rail logistics companies in Europe. Rail Cargo Group together with strong partners operates a comprehensive network of door-to-door logistics in Europe and to Asia. It connects European urban areas and ports to prospering economic centres in Russia, Turkey and to China.
