The Rail Freight Forum 2025, an official event of the 16th TRAKO International Railway Fair, will once again bring together leading voices of the European rail freight sector.

Organised by the Fundacja ProKolej and the Federation of Independent Rail Operators (ZNPK), the Forum has become a permanent feature of TRAKO’s conference programme, opening the second day of the fair with a high-level debate on the future of rail cargo.
As in previous editions, the event will feature experts and executives from EU institutions, academia, industry and major freight operators across Europe. This year’s discussions will focus on the effectiveness of measures already taken to strengthen the competitiveness of rail freight, and on assessing the realistic prospects for further growth of this market segment.
“European rail freight needs consistent and coordinated actions to strengthen its position in the logistics chain. The Forum in Gdańsk provides a unique opportunity to exchange experiences and to assess whether current initiatives are delivering tangible results,” says Dr Jakub Majewski, CEO of Fundacja ProKolej.
The 2025 edition will host a distinguished line-up of speakers, including:
- Conor Freighan – Secretary General, European Rail Freight Association (Belgium);
- Andrea Giuricin – Transport Economist, Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca (Italy); 3
- Stefan Akira Jarecki – Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences, Warsaw University of Technology (Poland)
“This debate is not only about analysing the present but also about outlining realistic prospects for the future. We want to verify which measures are truly effective and which require a new approach to make rail freight more competitive across Europe,’ adds Michal Litwin, director general of ZNPK and board member at ERFA.
The Rail Freight Forum will be conducted in Polish and English, with simultaneous translation provided, ensuring open participation for an international audience.
