Rail Cargo Group partners with PCT for smarter EUR pallet management

The ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has partnered with Dutch company Pallet Control Tower bv (PCT) to strengthen the global reach of the EUR pallet system. The collaboration will enhance the exchange and trading of EUR pallets and returnable transport items (RTIs) through advanced digital solutions.

A key focus of the partnership is reintroducing an efficient system for exchanging EUR pallets and RTIs. RCG and PCT will implement a solution that increases transparency and streamlines operations. PCT’s eCredits system allows for virtual pallet exchanges, extending beyond Europe to global markets.

Beyond exchanges, PCT offers a marketplace for buying and selling pallets and RTIs across the Americas, EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), and Asia-Pacific. The PCT-Online platform automatically matches users with suitable offers, simplifying the process.

RCG views this partnership as a step towards modernising pallet management while ensuring compliance with evolving regulations, including the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). PCT’s Software as a Service (SaaS) platform is designed to meet these regulatory demands efficiently.

By leveraging API technology, PCT’s system supports the digitalisation of pallet logistics. Through this initiative, RCG aims to establish the EUR pallet system as a global benchmark and enhance intermodal transport worldwide.

In the coming months, RCG will introduce its partners and customers to the PCT platform and begin account registration, enabling access to the new services.
