Rail Baltica third CEF grant signed

The Innovation and Networks Executive Agency, INEA, and RB Rail AS, Estonian Ministry of Economics and the Transport Ministries of Latvia and Lithuania signed the third CEF Grant Agreement for the construction of Railway Baltica. The total value of the agreement is EUR 130 million, with a CEF contribution of EUR 110 million, which is 85% of total eligible costs.
The funding is intended to be used for actions such as assessments and studies, technical design, preliminary design, spatial planning, construction work, owner’s supervision, project implementation support measures and publicity measures.
The additional funding received under the third CEF grant will support construction activities in Lithuania on Kaunas–Lithuanian/Latvian border section, including to build a bridge over Neris river, construct access roads to railways for the whole section, and start construction preparatory works on the Pärnu–Latvian border section in Estonia. Funds will be also allotted for the design of the railway section from Upeslejas to the Vangaži maintenance facilities in Latvia, for the completion and consolidation of preliminary technical design for the entire railway line.
Identification of infrastructure components, the optimum procurement and deployment strategies, carried out thorough supplier market assessments, and other activities will be also financed under this CEF agreement.
The funds allocated under the last Grant Agreement has been divided among the beneficiaries (three Baltic States) including the contribution foreseen for RB Rail AS accordingly. Estonia received EUR 6 million, with a EUR 5.1 million CEF contribution, Latvia, EUR 8 million with a CEF contribution of EUR 6.9 million and Lithuania, EUR 115.6 million with a CEF contribution of EUR 98,4 million.
So far, along with this grant agreement, the total value of the EU grant for the project is nearly EUR 824 million. The total value of all three CEF grants is EUR 683 million, representing 85% of the total eligible costs.
