Polish Railway Lines launches tender on Ełk – Korsze electrification

PKP Polish Railway Lines announced the tender for the elaboration of the documentation regarding the modernisation and electrification of Ełk – Korsze railway section. As part of the tender, the developer will prepare the documentation on the modernisation of 6 stations and 7 stops.
The needed investment for the Ełk – Korsze project is estimated at PLN 578.5 (EUR 136.7 million). The construction works are expected to be launched in 2020 and they should be completed in 2023.
“Thanks to modernization and electrification of the rail section from Ełk to Korsze, and work on line 353 on the section from Iława to Korsz will allow reducing time travel from Olsztyn to Elk, through Korsze. At railway stations and stops the platforms will be equipped with facilities for the disabled passengers. The improvement of the line’s capacity will create new opportunities for regional and long-distance transport,” Ireneusz Merchel, CEO of PKP Polish Railway Lines said.
The project is part of the “Works on the railway line No. 38, on the Ełk – Korsze section, together with electrification” project, implemented under the Operational Program for Infrastructure and Environment (OPI&E) for 2014-2020.
Until 2023, the company intends to electrify 300 km of its railway network including Ocice- Rzeszów section, Lublin – Stalowa Wola Rozwadów line, Elk – Korsze and Szczecin– Granica (Tantow). In addition, PKP will conduct other studies for the electrification of other 500 km lines.
