Poland signs level crossings modernisation contracts

Polish State Railways PLK announced that it has signed PLN 241 million (EUR 56.7 million) contracts to increase safety at 182 level crossings. The total value of the project is PLN 256.7 million (EUR 60.4 million) and envisages the modernisation of 182 rail and road crossings on 73 railway lines in Poland.
Within the project, most of level crossings are locate in Mazowieckie povince (21), Dolnośląskie (20) and Małopolskie (18). In addition, 26 crossings will be modernised on Radom – Lukow line, 10 on Katowice – Legnica route, 9 on Line No. 7 on Warsaw – Dorohuska section (via Lublin), 6 crossings on Line No.27 on Nasielsk – Toruń section, and 94 on Kraków Płaszów- Oświęcim.
“Safety remains a priority in PKP Polish Railway Lines’ activity. The company not only modernizes the traffic and builds collision-free crossings over or under the tracks, but also introduces modern motion control systems. Thanks to that, we increase the level of safety and provide better rail travel,” Ireneusz Merchel, President of PKP Polish Railway Lines said.
The project, divided into 5 phases, is planned to be implemented between 2017 and 2020. It is part of the first stage of “improvement of safety at crossings of railway lines with roads” programme with a total value of PLN 650 million (EUR 153 million).
