PKP PLK signed consultancy contract for a new section on Coal Line

PKP Polish Railway Lines and Multiconsult Polska Sp. z o.o. signed a EUR 2.4 million (PLN 10.2 milion) contract for design documentation for the section between the Zduńska Wola Karsznice rail junction (central part of Poland) and Dąbie nad Nerem, on C- E 65 railway line. Under the contract, the consultancy company will have to complete the documentation in 21 months.
The project includes the modernisation of Węglówka, railway line No. 131 on the section Zduńska Wola Karsznice – Dąbie nad Nerem (Łódź Voivodeship). On the 60-km double track section, PKP PLK will lay new tracks and will renew the traction system and the existing turnouts. The project envisages the modernisation of 64 engineering objects, and the level of security will increase after the reconstruction of 44 rail crossings. The modernisation of railway traffic control and telecommunications devices will ensure better traffic management and impact on train safety.
In addition, the project will increase the comfort level for passengers, thanks to the planned modernisation of platforms at 5 stops (Szadek, Otok, Poddębice, Kłudna and Kraski). All facilities will be adapted to the needs of people with reduced mobility.
“We are consistently realising the goal on attracting more cargo to railways. This is the reason PKP PLK is preparing the modernisation of the Coal Line, from Zduńska Wola Karsznic to Tczew. We have signed a contract for the design of works for the first phase of Zduńska Wola Karsznice – Dąbie nad Nerem modernisation. The investment will result in a larger number of freight trains from Silesia to Tri-City ports,” said Ireneusz Merchel, the President of the Board of PKP PLK.
After the modernisation works, on Zduńska Wola Karsznice – Dąbie nad Nerem rail section, the freight trains will run at speeds of 120 km/h, from currently 40 km/h.
The project called “Works within C-E 65 on the section Zduńska Wola – Inowrocław – Tczew LCS Zduńska Wola Karsznice” is planned to be completed at the end of 2020. The construction is planned for 2021-2023. The EUR 105 million (PLN 450 million) investment is to improve rail freight transport from Silesia to the Gdynia and Gdańsk ports. This is one of the four stages of the project, including the modernisation of the Coal Line on the section from Zduńska Wola Karsznice through Inowrocław, Bydgoszcz to Tczew, which is estimated at EUR 1.16 billion (PLN 5 billion).
