PKP Intercity to be partially privatized

pkpPKP Group intends to sell a stake in PKP Intercity through Warsaw Stock Exchange, but the Group will retain a controlling stake, PKP Group CEO Jakub Karnowski told Polish Press Agency (PAP).
“In 2018 we intend to sell PKP Intercity via the stock market, much like PKP Cargo, in which we kept a controlling stake of 33% of shares,” Karnowski said.
PKP Intercity provides passenger transport services at national and international level. More than 300 trains are operated on a daily basis in the category Express InterCity (EIC), and as of December 2014, the company has introduced a new category of trains, Express InterCity Premium (EIP), produced by Alstom.
The company started a new modernization, repairs and acquisition project of PLN 5.5 bln (EUR 1.35 bln). PKP Intercity allocates PLN 130 mil (approx. EUR 32 mil) to 660 projects in 2015. For the rolling stock projects, the operator received from the EIB, at the end of 2013, a financing of EUR 186 mil.
The operator’s project involves the acquisition of 20 EMU, modernization of 218 passenger wagons, acquisition of 25 passenger wagons, acquisition of 10 diesel locomotives and modernization of 20 shunters. Within this project, Polish company already signed some contracts.
