PKP Cargo fined for limiting competition

pkp cargoPoland’s Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) found that freight operator PKP Cargo abused its dominant position, resulting in limited competition on the rail freight market, fining the company 14.2 million PLN (3.3 million euros).
UOKiK established that in 2006 PKP Cargo introduced regulations allowing it to refuse to sign a special agreement with enterprises it saw as competitors. The contract extended attractive discounts to companies that did not compete directly with PKP Cargo, while also preventing competitors from expanding their activity and gaining new customers. The illegal practice went on until 2007.
The ruling may be appealed in court.
