Panorama trams enter services in Olsztyn

Panorama tramsThe first Panorama trams started regular passenger services on June 14 on the Olsztyn tram line No.2 linking city’s main railway station with Kanta Street.

The new tams are manufactured by the Durmazlar marking he Turkish company’s debut on the European market.

“This is undoubtedly another historic moment for us, the inhabitants of Olsztyn. The first two trams from Turkey have passed both the approval and technical acceptance processes and are already approved for use. Modern transport is the future and an opportunity to overcome the transport problems of cities,” Piotr Grzymowicz, the President of Olsztyn said.

The Panorama tram for Olsztyn is fully low – floor and they are longer than the existing Solaris Tramino vehicles by 3.2 metres, which are currently operating city’s network. The bidirectional Turkish trams have a length of 32.5 metres, compared to the 29.3m – long Solaris Tramino trams, and are 2.5 metre – wide. They can accommodate 208 passengers, 38 of whom are seated, including four foldable seats. The doors behind the driver’s cabins are single–leaf, while the other four pairs are double–leaf.

The Panorama trams are five – section vehicles, compared to Solaris Tramino, which are 3 – section vehicles.

“Most of the standards that are used in the already well – known Tramino trams have also been met by the Panoramas. We have reduced the number of batteries in favor of a special capacitor that supports moving away. As a result, these vehicles consume less energy, which was our priority,” Andrzej Karwowski, the head of the Investment Unit of the City Hall.

Currently, Durmazlar delivered five Panorama trams and within the next weeks, other vehicles are expected to arrive in Olsztyn. The first tram has been delivered in February 2020. The Turkish company and the city signed the contract in 2018 for the supply of 12 trams with an option for 12 additional vehicles. PLN 108 million (EUR 23.76 million) was the value of the contract that can reach to PLN 206 million (EUR 45.3 million) if the option is exercised.
