ÖBB to renew Puchberg Railway in September

The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) will carry out extensive renewal and maintenance works on the Puchberger Bahn between 8 September and 10 October 2025. The EUR 3.9 million programme is designed to ensure the long-term performance and safety of the regional line, which connects Bad Fischau-Brunn with Puchberg am Schneeberg.

From 15 September to 10 October, the Puchberger Bahn will be closed to train traffic while the main works are undertaken. During this period, a rail replacement bus service will operate between Bad Fischau-Brunn and Puchberg am Schneeberg. In addition, several level crossings will need to be temporarily closed to road traffic as part of the project.

Measures to safeguard rail infrastructure

The package of works includes platform renewal at Grünbach Schule halt, track replacement along several sections of the route, the renewal of drainage systems, and the installation of new cable troughs. Vegetation clearance and inspection of technical installations will also be carried out to prevent any risk to operational safety.

According to ÖBB, these measures are necessary to maintain the required track condition and functionality, thereby ensuring safe and punctual train operations.

Noise and overnight works expected

ÖBB has advised local residents that some disruption will be unavoidable. The works will involve heavy machinery and warning signals, resulting in temporary noise and dust emissions. To shorten the construction period and minimise the duration of service interruptions, certain tasks will also be carried out at night.

The railway has sent information letters to residents along the route and emphasised that all efforts will be made to keep disturbances to a minimum.
