ÖBB in cooperation with Slovak Railways (ZSSK) launched a Vienna-Split night train service which will run over the summer until mid-September.
The train service between Austria and Croatia will allow passenger to transport their car or motorbike on the train from Vienna to Split and from Bratislava to Split.
“Thanks to the cooperation with ZSSK, we can expand the European night train network with another holiday destination with the new EuroNight. The night train to Split is now our 9th EuroNight connection with a railway partner. We are ensuring that tourists to Coratia can now also reach their destination comfortably overnight in the summer and travel in a particularly climate-friendly way by rail,” ÖBB – Personenverkehr AG board member Michaela Huber said.
The Austrian Railways has 19 Nightjet lines with 28 night train connections which makes the Europe’s largest night train operator.
The Vienna-Split night train connection will run twice a week on the route Bratislava – Vienna – Graz – Split.
“Thanks to our excellent cooperation with our ÖBB colleagues we can offer our passengers a unique trip to the Croatian Adriatic coast, which we also call the Slovakian sea,” Karol Martincek, member of the board (ZSSK) said.
The two rail operators have successfully implemented a joint project on the Bratislava – Komárno rail route.
The tickets for the night train are available from EUR 29.90 in the seating car and from EUR 69.90 per person and direction in the comfortable sleeping car.
To Croatia, ÖBB is already providing night train services to Zagreb, Rijeka and now Split.
The EuroNight links Zurich and Munich to the capital city of Zagreb and from Munich the passengers can travel direct to the beautiful harbour of Rijeka while from Vienna and Graz to the fabulous little beach town of Split.
The Austrian rail operator is implementing developing plans to expand its Nightjet network which also includes investments to acquire new trains designed for such transport services.
