Nippon Signal receives electrification contract for Taiwan railways

Japanese railway signal maker Nippon Signal will partner with a Taiwanese manufacturer for a railway electrification contract in Taiwan granted by the Transport Ministry. The project forsees the electrification of about 120 km of the South-Link Line, while also delivering rail signal systems and crossing equipment. Construction will start within this year.
Once the project is completed in 2021, all segments of a train network that circles the island will be electrified, putting every part of Taiwan within a day’s trip by rail.
The South-Link Line is running along the southern tip of the island of Taiwan and connects the eastern and western coasts. It is 98.2 km long, of which 81.4 km is single track.
