Newag wins train contract in Poland

Newag and Marshal Office of the Podkarpackie Province signed a contract for the supply of 10 multiple units for suburban railway services.
Under the contract, Newag will deliver 8 three-car Impuls 2 EMUs and two 222Ma two-car diesel multiple units. The new trains will be manufactured at Newag plant in Nowy Sącz, in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship of southern Poland. The manufacturer will offer a warranty for 72 and 60 months.
The Impuls 2 EMUs will be equipped with ETCS baseline 3, GPS monitoring system and passenger information systems. They will have 138 seats and dedicated places for luggage and bicycles. Under the contract, Newag will also provide maintenance services as well as a simulator to be used for train drivers. The new trains will be able to run at speeds of 160 km/h.
The 222Ma DMUs for Podkarpackie will have a length of 43m and a total capacity of 257 passengers, of which 115 seats. Four doors will facilitate quick entry and exit. The trains will be equipped with passenger information system, LED lighting and LCD monitors. All vehicles are equipped with air conditioning system and people counting system. The new trains will have special places for passengers with reduced mobility, as well as separate places for bicycles. The DMU will reach a maximum operating speed of 130 km/h.
