New TramLink trams enter service in Potsdam

Following successful testing and the receipt of technical approvals, ViP Verkehrsbetrieb Potsdam GmbH (ViP) has introduced Stadler’s new TramLink trams into regular operation. This marks the beginning of a new era of sustainable public transport in the capital of Brandenburg.

The first two TramLink trams, out of a total of 13 units ordered from Stadler, entered regular service in Potsdam on 17 December.

“We are delighted to announce the start of passenger service for the new TramLink tram in Potsdam. This modern tram represents a significant step forward in improving urban mobility and will provide residents and visitors with a comfortable, environmentally friendly, and efficient way to get around,” said Bettina Biffi, Commercial Managing Director of ViP.

In March, Potsdam’s public transport company unveiled the first tram produced by Stadler.

Stadler’s new TramLink trams are 42 metres long, around twelve metres longer than the previous Variobahn vehicles. They can accommodate up to 246 passengers, including 74 seated. Eight wide doors ensure particularly fast and convenient boarding and alighting. The bright, spacious interior, with step-free access and a generous layout, guarantees a pleasant travel experience.

Special attention has been paid to the needs of different passenger groups: parent-and-child seats provide ample space for families, four multifunctional areas facilitate the transport of prams, and two separate zones are wheelchair accessible.

The energy-optimised air conditioning adapts to occupancy, while LED strips indicate the status of the doors. The innovative bogie concept with continuous axles ensures a smooth and comfortable ride. Additional features, such as USB sockets and a modern passenger information system, complete the offering.

With the introduction of the TramLink trams, Potsdam is investing in modern, sustainable, and comfortable mobility for all passengers.

“With TramLink, we are bringing a vehicle to the tracks that combines maximum comfort, accessibility, and energy efficiency. We are proud to take this important step towards sustainable mobility in Potsdam together with ViP,” said Jure Mikolčić, CEO of Stadler Germany Division.
