New building contract at Přerov control centre awarded

Czechia’s Railway Administration, Správa železnic, has selected contractors AŽD and Signalbau to construct a new building at Přerov Traffic Control Centre enabling the extension of remote railway traffic control to additional lines in the eastern part of the country.

The two companies submitted a bid worth CZK 2.3 billion (approximately EUR 93 million). Construction is scheduled to begin in September, with completion expected in early 2028.

The modern six-storey facility will house not only new control rooms but also offices and essential support infrastructure.

At present, the Přerov Traffic Control Centre remotely manages train operations on 559 km of track in Moravia and Silesia. Once the expansion is complete, including the addition of new control rooms, the total coverage is expected to double.

The future six-storey building will be connected to the existing structure of the dispatching centre. It will feature six control rooms, each with the necessary technological, administrative, and welfare facilities. Every room will have a tiered layout, with large LED display panels at the front, showing schematic diagrams of the controlled areas.

The investment also includes a dedicated ETCS control room, as well as emergency and backup control rooms. There will be space for signalling equipment, power supply systems, and battery storage.

An energy centre will also be built to supply power to the entire facility and dozens of new parking spaces will be added as part of the development.

As part of critical transport infrastructure, the entire site will be monitored by CCTV, and the perimeter fencing will be equipped with a detection system capable of identifying damage and vibrations.

The original building of the control centre was completed in the early 2000s, and included the installation of signalling and telecom systems. It pioneered remote rail control, enabling streamlined operations over a stretch of nearly 100 km, from Přerov to Břeclav, and allowed a small team to manage traffic that previously required much larger staffing.
