Nagpur-Secunderabad feasibility study started

Alexander Misharin, First Vice-President of Russian Railways announced that the company has started to prepare a feasibility study on the modernisation of the 575-km Nagpur-Secunderabad railway line in India. It is now planned to implement the modernisation for raising railway service speeds between the Indian cities of Nagpur and Secunderabad up to 200 km/h.
In June, Russian Railways’ President Oleg Belozerov and the Indian Ambassador to Russia Pankaj Saran have signed an agreement between India’s Ministry of Railways and Russian Railways on the preparation of the feasibility study for a high-speed rail service between Nagpur and Secunderabad in India.
For the project, RZD International is carrying out the feasibility study and it has received an official permission for establishment of place of business in India and opened its representative office in New Delhi. The company is considering the possibility of participating in a number of projects in India.
The line, that is divided into two sections, Nagpur-Ballarshah and the Ballarshah-Secunderabad, has 1770 bridges and culverts 18 major bridges with a length of more than 100 meters.
In 2014 India announced its plans to modernise some existing lines in order to accommodate trains that can run at speeds of 200 km per hour. The plans envisages Delhi-Chandigarh, Chennai-Hyderabad and Delhi-Lucknow-Varanasi routes.
