A new high-tech train from the Moskva-2026 series has entered service on Line 2 of the Moscow Metro. The modern train was developed and manufactured at the Metrowagonmash plant, part of Transmashholding, using domestically produced components.
Before being put into passenger service, the train underwent extensive testing without passengers. Specialists thoroughly checked the operation of all systems and mechanisms, analyzing each element individually.
The new Moskva-2026 series retains the main advantages of previous generations: high-performance air conditioning systems, wide doors, comfortable passages between cars, and adaptive lighting.
The train’s capacity has been increased by 10% compared to conventional numbered trains, and the width of the doors has increased by 32%.
Engineers have further improved ergonomics and passenger comfort.
The new train features larger glass surfaces in the access areas, modernized surveillance cameras, and an improved communication system between passengers and the driver.
The seats are now continuous, without metal joints, and the air conditioning system includes additional air distribution channels mounted in the ceiling.
The lighting in the end cars has also been completely redesigned.
Moskva-2026 represents an important step forward in the development of the Russian domestically produced rolling stock industry.
Currently, this train can rightly be considered one of the most advanced and comfortable subway cars in the world.
In June 2025, Moscow placed an additional order with Transmashholding for over 700 Moskva-2026 metro cars, which will be delivered between 2026 and 2027. The entire rolling stock fleet will be maintained by the manufacturer under a life-cycle contract, which makes the company fully responsible for the technical condition of the trains and their operational availability.
Transmashholding is currently delivering 560 Moskva-2024 cars under a separate contract for the 43 km long Zamoskvoretskaya line. The same rolling stock is also used on the Troitskaya line, which is undergoing extensive expansion.
