More PKP Intercity trains now operating at 200 km/h

Poland’s PKP Intercity has expanded its fleet of high-speed services, with the EIC Posejdon now operating at speeds of up to 200 km/h. This makes it the second classic train, following the EIC Jantar, to reach this speed on the Warsaw–Gdańsk corridor—previously reserved for Pendolino services.

Since 15 July, the EIC Jantar has been running at 200 km/h between Warsaw and Gdańsk, pulled by a Griffin locomotive. This marks a milestone for PKP Intercity, as it is the first conventional locomotive-hauled train to achieve this speed on a scheduled basis. The EIC Jantar features up to 14 modern, air-conditioned carriages in both first and second class, including a WARS dining carriage.

From 25 July, the EIC Posejdon—operating between Warsaw and Kołobrzeg—also increased its top speed to 200 km/h. The train comprises up to seven second-class carriages, one first-class carriage, and a WARS unit, all hauled by a Griffin locomotive.

This upgrade aligns with PKP Intercity’s long-term rolling stock strategy, aimed at delivering faster and more comfortable journeys. The company has active contracts with domestic manufacturers and service providers totalling over PLN 16.5 billion (EUR 3.8 billion), enabling new connections that match modern infrastructure capabilities and growing passenger demand.
