Mitsui to establish JV in the Brazilian railway market

SuperVia_05_11 pag 4Japan’s Mitsui has signed agreements with Odebrecht TransPort to establish a joint venture company in order to promote concession and public-private partnership („PPP”) projects concerning urban passenger railway transportation.
Between 2014 – 2020 Mitsui and Odebrecht TransPort  joint venture will invest BRL 1.5 billion (EUR 474 mln) in suburban railway in Rio de Janeiro (“SuperVia”) and BRL 12.2 billion (EUR 3,8 bn) in subway line No. 6 project in São Paulo, due to be completed in 2020. Also BRL 1.5 billion (EUR 474 mln) will be invested in light rail transit in Rio de Janeiro („Rio LRT”), due in 2015 and BRL 1.7 billion (EUR 537) in light rail transit project in Goiania („Go LRT”), due in 2017.
Odebrecht TransPort, a subsidiary of a Brazilian major conglomerate Odebrecht S.A, operates various transportation infrastructure including passenger railways, highways, airport and ports in Brazil.
Assets of the J/V are composed of suburban railway in Rio de Janeiro, which is under operation, subway line No.6 in São Paulo and light rail transit in Rio de Janeiro and Goiania, which are under development or construction. In addition, the development of new PPP projects in major Brazilian cities as well as investment will be made through this J/V.
